The confrontational student

Handling a confrontational student is very challenging. What are some suggestions for giving constructive criticism to the confrontational student with setting them off?

Student who are confrontational usually need a little breather to rethink of what has happened. THis type of student would rather be talked to and not at. I dealt with a student of this behavior and let them sit for awhile, take a breath. and waited till she was ready to talk. Most problems stem from personal life unfortunately-but it does work itself out in the end. I am not saying it works every time, but in my situation, it did. She just lashed out and wanted someone to hear her.

Hi Katrina,
Make sure the conversation is private and always LISTEN first! Phrase the scenario in question form, "Bob have you ever realized that....?" Then offer constructrive FEEDBACK not CRITICISM. Criticism is negative in connotation. Always end the conversation on a positive note.
