Whether the student is discouraged, ready to quit or highly motivated and engaged in learning and applying their career goals........I have found that guest speakers stimulate the students and either motivate them to persue their education or redirect their energies to a field that is more suited to their apptitude and level of professionalism.

Hi Rachelle,
I love graduate guest speakers. They really do serve as super motivators to students, especially students who are about to quit.
Patricia

Guest speakers are great at motiviating the students to finish what they have started. I bring in a graduate that was struggleing through the program, he finished and is now at a job he loves. He shares his story to the current students and I get postive feedback from the students with this experience.

Sometime we forget the things we did in the beginning that were working. I use to have previous students come in and share their experiences and the students were so excited and motivated.

Hi Cheryl,
A good guest speaker is priceless. A good guest speaker can certainly rejuvenate students who are wanting to give up.
Patricia

A good guest speaker will let the students know that everyone stuggles with quitting. It is a very real concern with many students.

I understand the need to want to quit but I continued with my education and I think a good guest speaker would help studnets rethink quitting.

I have used guest speakers many times. It affirms why the are in school for that particular program. I have had a guest speaker such as a Long Term care administrator and Home Health Directors to speak to the class. They are always attentive! I teach Long term healthcare management and I had a Gerontogy case manager
come to class they loved it!

Guest speakers can inspire students. It gives them a picture of what they can become. Especially if you bring in a former student from the same program. It shows them that they can do the same

Hi Monica,
Guest speakers are priceless! The right guest speaker can certainly add spark to the course!
Patricia

The right guest speaker will be motivational to the class and the instructor. They will tell stories, give examples of hardships they've overcome, and maybe even rekindle our love for what we are doing.

I like to use a guest speaker at the end of our classes it serves as a punctuation for the class. Meeting someone working in the field and listening to them give real world advice on a subject they have been learning helps me re-enforce the lectures. It also serves as a nice change of pace for them

Guest speakers from the "real world" always bring a fresh look into our classrooms. The speaker is actually doing, what the students want to do. We often get into a Q&A more than the speaker expects. However, it ends up being very enlightening for the speaker too.

Students might be able to relate with the story of the guest speaker and realize they can also be successful.

Hi Kathy,
Students really do love guest speakers. They are motivated and inspired by outside speakers.
Patricia

Barbara I do agree guest speaker are wonderful. They confirm the things that you have taught them, and they are a diverse knowledge base.

The students really seem to like guest speakers. They seem to bring a sense of reality to the classroom.

I utilize both topic oriented speakers in the
particular field and also internally from our
career center. It's great to have the inter-
action among the students.

This is a motivator for the students for them to visualize their future.

Hi Joshua,
I really like how your campus as a whole has guest speakers to come in and be honest with students about their chosen field of study. Guest speakers can share as a true inspiration to students.
Patricia

At our campus we have guest speakers continually come in and speak with students. Some students might be discouraged about the career options and challenges that lie ahead after graduation. Our guest speakers generally enlighten our students with their real world success, and serve as role models for continuing in a tough market. Our students, for the most part, appreciate the candid advice.
