Peer pressure never fails
When laser pointed peer pressure is applied to unfocused, unprepared, etc. students; the unpleasant/dirty work for the most part is not done by your hands, but by their own peers.
Works great!
I agree. I recently had a student that, no matter what, always fell asleep in class. He worked nights and just couldn't handle not getting 12 hours sleep per night (his words, not my kidding around). I did everything...pulled him aside and talked with him, stood behind him during my lectures, reached the point that I finally pointed him out in class to which he merely shrugged and, within a half an hour fell back to sleep. But, when the students finally got fed up and told him off during class, he finally straightened up.
Of course this same student came to me at the beginning of the next semester/term and asked why his grade was so low. I had to explain again that it was because of his sleeping in class and not participating.
