having a guest speaker come in and speak to students is a great idea. it gives students a chance to visualize themselves as successful and happy. the reason i chose to go back to school after so many years was i saw how happy people were when i went to dr appts

I feel when you can bring in a former student that has a good success story it really helps the current students to get re-focused on their goals. We tend to get students about halfway through our program that start to get overwhelmed so when they get the opportunity to see someone that has been there and done that with successful results it tends to get them back on track.

I have a guest speaker who would like to speak to my students. She is not in the industry we are in, however, she had to quit one of her jobs to focus on her senior year of college. I believe she could demonstrate the difficulties, as well as the rewards of making the dean's list. What are your thoughts on that idea?

I agree. As a student I always enjoyed guest speakers. Also, some of the best guest speakers are former students.
Bringing guest speakers into the classroom give the students a different view and perspective of what they will be doing in the real world and also motivates them. It breals the monotony of their everday classroom environment.

I feel that guest speakers can also break up the atmoshpere a littel bit, change things up. It can also help to bring some of yourstudents back into the structure, knowing they have a goal to be like this person

Guest speakers also permit the presentation of material in a different manner and with a different personality. Guest speakers are usually from the "real world" and they tell the truth about how it is best to survive in the real world. They bring reality to the classroom.
