Center Stage
I have had several studentslike this and have had to learn to accept that I cannot change their personality but can tactfully show them how to save it for more appropriate times.
I had student like this last term. At times he was taking away the focus from the course and putting it on him, though often he kept the energy up. I had a chat with him and we found a common ground that good for the other students and myself.
A fun way to use the 'use it wisely cards" are to assign a student each day to be the "offical" and to have them flash the yellow or red card like a soccer penelty
Hi Danielle,
The orange card will certainly keep things on point. We have to have something in place to help contain the center-stage student.

I find it very easy to get off track with the "center-stage" students, so I implemented the orange card. We have random students who have an orange card, and when we go off topic they throw up the orange card. It keeps everyone involved in appropriate subject matter!
There's one (or two) in every class. But I like the idea of using the "use it wisely" cards. I am going to try this .I feel this might help a shy student speak up because they will have these cards sitting there that they will have a reason to speak up.
Hi Shannon,
Absolutely! A simple talk to the student to let them know that you love their energy level, but it is a time and place for everything; the student normally conforms.
