Class Room Fights anyone ?

One of the most difficult situations I ever had was 2 students that got in an argument that almost ended in blows… not even HS or College kids they were adults in their 40’s. I had to quickly act and get their attention, I heaved my training book at the front wall (did want to hit anyone LOL) to make a loud noise and then sternly asked them both to exit the class to the hall with me, and told them both that they would be removed from the class and the school if they didn’t calm down and act their age. I won’t go into the details of what started it, but the gentleman that was out of line and started was asked to leave for the night.

I like that "you just got fired" I am going to use that. One thing I have noticed for lab classes is that the "side talking" needs to be kept in check. When practicing on each other, the student performing the procedure needs to approach the other student as they would a patient. Students will encounter all types of personalities in their profession. When there are disagreements, I try to use it as an opportunity for the student to learn which response will and will not be acceptable in the "real world".

I often have tension when we merge 2 classes that have been exclusive with one another for 12 or more weeks. It is always inevitable that they are going to clash.

I normally just let them work it out themselves, unless it gets verbal or physical. At that point I step in and say "I'm your employer and you both just got fired!" . It kind of brings it back to reality why they are even in school.
