the talkative student
as agreed with the content of the course, I have one student that is dominant and very smart. I have limited her to the number of times she can participate in class each session.
I actually really like the talkative student because they are also motivators. They tend to engage in what is going on around them. I do a short 10 minute in the news assignment everyday about what is happening in the news that is medical related. Right now with healthcare being such a big issue that talkative person can be used in a debate situation. They tend to get the class involved. They have no problem taking a stand on any issue. It also drives the other students to be involved before "the talkative" student starts in.
I do not mind the talkative student as long as the content is relevant to the class or current subject.
I do not agree with limiting the number of times a talkative student can participate in class. This student should be given additional responsibilities, such as: being the leader of a group and leading in group discussions, distributing supplies or setting up work stations in laboratory classes.
I love the card idea. I am going to use this in my classrooom
I let them finish their sentence they i tell them " we need to stay on topic so that we can finish. If we do then we will have time at end to discuss"
My students are extremely talkative. This occurs before lectures. This is expected because students see their classes as a social ggathering, where they can discuss the latest news and gossip. However, during lectures, talking should cease. I usually tell my students that there is a time for everything: a time to speak, and a time to be quiet. During discussions, I let the talkative students take over, but I monitor them so that they will not monopolize the whole discussion.
