works alone better

I have a student that does great by himself but if asked to work in a group he is easily irritated and frustrated. Any suggestions as to guide him to work better with others?

I agree, for some students a gradual progression is better, and can assure success in working with others

Some personalities work best alone, for various reasons. Having them "perform" in a forced team setting is sometimes counter-productive. Making attempts to better understand the student's personality and motivations could go a long way to better help them adjust to a team environment.

I agree. In a real world environment teamwork is absolutely necessary. Thus far I have him working on his own leading project with the option to choose one or a few partners. As of now there is only one other student working with him but he is starting to turn around with a new leadership type of role. I feel that is a good way to boost his confidence.

Hi Phillip,
How about starting him off with just another partner, instead of exposing him to more than one partner. He needs to learn how to adapt because in the real world this could be a big down fall for him.
