How can you help unprepared students come to class

It is easier to deal/handle a student when you have a rapport with them. When there is a relationship, the student will work hard as to not to disappoint you. Motivate students as much as possible, but reprimand them when they are unprepared. Instill in your students that being unprepared is unacceptable.

I feel that its important to have a professional relationship with each individual student. I feel by having this relationship with each student they will feel comfortable about coming to you to discuss any problems that may be keeping them from being prepared for each class session.
I too have a hard time getting this students to come to class prepared. What I try to do is ecourage them with extra credit.
This is a great question! I'd love to see if anyone has any ideas aside from quizzes or e&e entrance and exit activities.
