No matter how much of rush we as instructors may be we have to be sure to find time to communicate with our students so that they won't feel neglected nor that we ruin their excitement of the program.

Hi Debra,

We certainly have to let our student know that we genuinely care about them as a person first. Empathy has proven to do great justice in the classroom.

There are times when I can see a student is carrying a lot of stress from their personal life and its effecting their performance in the classroom. I take time to speak with them privately, most of the time they just need someone to understand all they are dealing with. A little empathy goes a long way.

Every so often, I schedule meetings with each of my students to discuss their progress and to provide them with an opportunity to express themselves about the course/program.
Their input helps me to plan better.
