Communication is the most effective way to reduce complaints. Communicate in the syllbus so guidelines and expectations are in writing, communicate verbally as problems arise, and communicate all office hours and contact info so you are available for students to come and voice their concerns before they become problems or complaints.

Hi Leslie,
I concur! Students need to be dealt with quickly and swiftly. Waiting only makes matters worse.

The one strategie that insturctors can use to help reduce the complaints and challenges is to make sure that their syllabus states the campus and classroom policies very clearly and to address the issue right away and not waiting until the next day to address the issue.

Keep an open communication with students, make sure they know you are availble to them. Post office hours, stay in class few mins. after. Have an email address they can contact you for comments, questions, etc.

Hi Mark,
Nicely responded to! Consistency and fairness are key! Treat all students the same so that no one has anything to complain about. Favoritism is frowned upon even at the collegian level.
