Dealing with the anger student

I have yet to master this task.

If the instructor knows or thinks a student is angry I think they should approach the student even if they are not disrupting class. I would approach the student carefully in order to avoid appearing nosy, but inquire if there is something they would like to discuss. This often can help in avoiding future problems.
Sometimes the student may open up and state that they are angry about some aspect of instruction and then the instructor may be able to resolve the issue in real time.
However,if the student is angry about personal issues, they may not want to talk about it and one has to accept that. It is almost always appropriate to direct them towards community or campus resources that are available to help them.

Hi Mark,
Absolutely! If the student is not disrupting class, don't bother the student. After class you may want to try talking to the student to see if you can be of assistance.
Patricia

I dont see a problem with the angry student as long as it does not disrupt the class. First listen to the student but sometimes things just cant be corrected. If the students anger affects the class then removal from class would be appropriate.
