cheating students
I do everything that I can to prvent the temptation of cheating for the students. We typically do review sessions, have seating charts during the exam to create good space between each student. No materials other than their pen/pencil are allowed. Finally, I NEVER allow them to use their computers to write an essay exam, etc.
I've found that cheating is becoming accepted. The attitude that "suckers" are the only one not cheating is disturbing. But when it's the "norm" to get cheats for a video game, I guess it just shows it's an issue we have to stay on top of.
Hi Marilyn,
Students are becoming more and more creative with ways to cheat. We have to look out for cell phones as well. They will have notes typed in notepad in the cell phones.

when a quiz or exam is given to the student, I have them remove everything but a pencil on their desk (I have seen answers written on water bottles) Their book bags must be closed and put under the desks. I move about the room during test taking and WATCH
I just let education know about it right away and not even tell the student. It's not worth the conflict at that time.
Hi Scott,
If they understand, they should know how to do it.

I have been confronted with cheating students before. In my subject that I teach, there is a LOT of "hands-on." If I catch or seriously suspect a student of cheating, I will follow up with an intense on-hands demonstartion of the skill in order to save thier grade. If they can not demonstarte to me they knew what they were writing on the exam, they would need to re-take the course.
