Advanced Students
Teaching computer technology, students are at very different skill levels in their use of the computer. I challenge my more advanced students by offering them a reward for applying their knowledge with supporting a small group of students that may not be as advanced as they are. They feel satisfied in the recognition of their skill level and the opportunity to receive positive affirmation from the other students learning from them.
Hi Billie,
Advanced students are great instructional resources. Most of them really want to help others. Use them to your advantage. Most students appreciate the additional help received from advanced students.

I agree with the leadership and tutoring that advanced students may employ, by assisting other students during class who may not be doing as well. I am an instructor of therapeutic massage and I have noticed this has worked very nicely for an acedemically challenged student. The act of being "helped" brought the challenged student into the group as a more cohesive whole with a spirit of team work. This seemed to be a win-win and a reward for the more advanced student.
Appealing to the more advanced student to learn an advanced technique, such as a proceedure for medical massage not only challenges them, but also rewards and affirms them.
Hi Gail,
I like how you offer the extra work to all students. You never want students to feel slighted in any way.
Patricia
As well as leadership opportunities I also give extra work to these students .The work is given as a reward and they know that they can refuse at anytime . Of course the work is offered to all students ie: coding assessments etc but I know those who have ran out of challenging class and homework will utilize the work.
Hi Caron,
Advanced students need to be kept busy. They enjoy using their brain, and we need to take advantage of their intelligence. I love giving these students leadership roles.
Patricia
Hi Cindy,
We must keep the brains of our busy students at work. Students feel really good about their knowledge whenever they can assist others.
