Cheating student
Woderfull handling I ilike that
my students are told the first day about the rules for cheating. I have students remove everyhting from the desk and space out. I teach adult students and if they have a sick child or they need to have their phone in case the student is needed i have them place it on my desk and i can notify them if it rings. I find this helps with the students texting answers to each other.
I like to remind them that they will not hve the opportunity to cheat when taking their certification exams, so it is better to be clear on the information now.
Hi Joshua,
Great points made. I can tell you do a fine job to curtail cheating. I especially like how you put the responsibility on the students to check their desk for writing.

Personally, I too, have found that letting your students know that you are monitoring them, helps deter cheating. If you say nothing, a student may plan on cheating, you will catch them, and they will fail. If you let them know ahead of time that you are monitoring them, and how you will be monitoring them, hopefully it will deter the situation.
Before every test I ask all of the students to space out, and remov all objects from their desk area, except for their writing utensil and themselves. I do not even give them a copy of the test until they do so. I have found that making this a standard at the very first test, help make it a natural habit.
I have also noticed that some students try not to comply--they take their notes off of their desk, but leave their back packs. I am NOT saying that each of these students are attempting to cheat, but the possibility is there. By making this the acceptable standard, the students will begin to do this automatically.
Other things I have done in the past to deter cheating is letting the students know that I will be checking their desk for writing or erase marks, so they need to check their area for this too before they start writing.
I have also separated exams into smaller chunks (3-parts). They are not allowed to take a restroom break until they have handed in one part of the exam. Once they finish the 1st part, they may start on the 2nd part. I believe this deters students from looking up answers on their phones in the middle of an exam.
I let them know they are being watched but also I let them know the first day of class zero tolerance on cheating.
Being in the medical field and any other field, if I have to question your integrity, you have none.
Hi Hany,
How do you typically minimize cheating. I simply let my students know that they are being watched.
