I usually walk around the room during a test. I will try to stand in the back of the room during a test. Does this work for anyone? I definitely do not do anything else during an exam.
I will walk around the room at various intervals during the exam and will monitor the exam from both the front and back of the room. Sometimes if the students know the instructor is watching, this is a effective deterrent for cheaters.
I agree that cheaters will find a way if they are that determined but in the end, they are their own worst enemy and are focusing their learning efforts in a self-destructive behavior.
I caught one student cheating and she was dismissed from the class and had to repeat the course. It was a quiz. It was hard on both of us. I felt really bad. Since then, thank goodness, our test generating program can easily scramble test questions, so every other student gets a different test. No bags, books, electronic tools, etc. are allowed on the desks.
:-)
I am guilty of walking around the class room during a test, but now I have learned that I might be perceived as a “pouncing-catâ€, so I will try another method. But at the beginning of each exam I remind the class that cheating is of no benefit to you because, when you are working out in the field, who shoulder will you have to look over?
I have tried standing in the back of the room, but feel my presense walking around is a much larger deterant than just standing in the back.
