cheating students
Most students cheat because they are not prepared, have not studied or don't understand the material. If you review at the beginning of each class what was covered in the last class then it will reinforce the lesson and any questions that they may have. It will help other students that are not prepared extra time to review their notes.
Cheating students have various reasons for not being prepared. Some are reasonable and others only exhibit laziness, poor time planning, not being focused, or just a procrastinating attitude. The bottom line is cheating is a choice based on a person's moral and ethical beliefs. This action speaks very clearly of the person's integrity level when faced with choices in life. Students are told in advance of the responsibilities of the course and the roadway to success. The students are guided by the teacher on being successful but the final choice of which way to turn when the road "Y"'s is the student's. My reaction to the student's choice can be positive or negative and I have no problem on giving failing grades as I do in rewarding with A's or B's. Seems the young college students are not being taught the responisbility of success early in life and the 99% perspiration that must accompany the success.
Teachers would like to help all students become an asset to any profession and society in general but time is a constriction. Many teachers not only have to help students but must perform administrative duties, help their family members, themselves, and other organizations that the teacher are involved in away from the school. So, in realitiy, a teacher does not have all the time in the world to help every student with every problem they have at all times. Some educators forgot the reality of "TIME" that can actually be dedicated to helping all students. Some can be helped, others need specialist with more time and resources. Burn-Out must be avoided.
Adult learners tend not to cheat in my experience. I agree that adequate preparation dissuades cheating.
Hi Lorraine,
A review always serves well. There is nothing like reinforcement. Students really like and appreciate reviews.
