Let studentds know and remind them that you always there for them, somethings they just don't have to do
Hi Hilary,
Instructors should make an effort to establish a rapport with each student. Students will open up more if they feel they have a relationship with the instructor.
Patricia
The more encouraged a student feels the more likely they are to participate in the ways that are appropriate in class. To make them feel important is establishing great rapport as well as instilling confidence to ensure their success.
Hi Kay,
They have certainly developed a rapport with you. At my institution it is coporate culture that the students must address faculty by Mr., Mrs., Ms., Miss and last name; this is thought to have more of a sense of respect.
Patricia
Hi Deborah,
That's right! It is because of our students that we have jobs! Students certainly are the most important people at the institution. I live by this belief, students 1st, institution 2nd, and I am last. I do what is in the best interest of the student first.
Patricia
I agree, students are our customers. The reason we are there and we should treat them with respect.
I too speak to my students in and out of class. However I am finding they are calling me by my first name and giving me hugs. There must be a happy mix. Are they feeling too comfortable?
Hi Annette,
Super gesture! Students need to feel a sense of importance, and they really matter because they really do!
Patricia
I always make it a point to speak to my students whether its in or out of class. I want them to feel they are important and to feel comfortable in my class.
