Reducing student complaints and challenges
You should distribute a clear syllabi that lists all that the students need to do to be able to pass the class. Make it very clear to the students that you will be available for any extra help they need outside the class room as long as they complete their share of responsibilities. I make sure that I am always ready with the power points, assignments, tests that need to be distributed to the students, so be organized and not give the students a reason to complain. If there is any complain try to take care of it as soon as possible.
Hi Mohammed,
Students need to feel important because afterall they are the most important people in the building. Students are the reasons we have jobs. Treat them with high regard!
Patricia
I totally agree. Distribution of syllabi and going over it makes the student understan their expectations. Any policies and procedures need to be made very clear on the very first day and be reminded now and then. making yourself approachable is also to key to avoid complaints and challanges. The grading system should be made clear and transparent. Avoid inconsistency that can cause chos.if there is concern do take care of it immediately.Always make sure to speak to them about their goal or their intention in school. Make them feel important.
I try to reduce student complaints by making it clear to my students that I am there to listen to them in a non-judgmental manner if they have any questions or concerns. Additionally, I do my best to make my requirements, expectations and objectives as clear as possible to leave very little room for interpretation.
I feel this is the best way to prevent any issues rising. Consistency is key, especially when working with working with older students. They want to know their instructor is going to be fair and they know what is being expected of them. Also keeping communication open with the students so they know they can come to you, as an instructor, and voice their concerns.
Yes I agree, when do you stop a complaining class? Is it better for the students to do it one on one or with the whole entire class?
Hi Brittany,
When students feel as though they have a say, they tend to be a lot easier to work with. Sometimes we simply need to FULLY listen to what the student has to say.
Patricia
I think you ultimately need to let the student have a voice and that will go a long way. So say hey did you like that project, how would you change it.
Hi Marie,
I can tell you fully prepare for your classes, and you are very organized. You try your best to avoid giving your students something to complain about. Keep up the good work!
