CHEATING

CHEATING IS WIDESPREAD WITH ALL THE TECHNOLOGY OUT THERE.HOW DO YOU CONTROL WITHOUT MAKING STUDENTS FEEL AS IF THEY ARE BEING TREATED LIKE CHILDREN?

I make it clear that cheating is not tolerated. I walk around the class room during the test.

Hi Kira,
Consistency is a must. You must do what you say you are going to do, otherwise even adult students will take you for granted.
Patricia

What I do is incorporate a no cell phone policy into my class room. I tell them not to even bring it with them on test days. This has helped a lot. And if someone chooses to break that policy I confiscate their phone during the test itself. With it clearly stated in the policy for the class and also placing the responsibility with the student, they tend to start following policy. Also consistency is key.

The rules and consquences for cheating should be explained in the beggining of the course so that the students will be aware.

I also incorporate different versions of my exams.

Let the student you know; give the student a second chance we are all human; and do something and assess the student the old fashioned way without using technology.
