Cheating
Students are told dishonesty is not tolerated in their chosen profession.
Hi Mary Beth,
Students are shooting themselves in the foot when they cheat.

your so right. you hurt yourself and others
i agree having the students write out cheat sheets help. Ask them to write it out 4 times then turn it to you prior to the exam this improves retention. Remind them that they will be called to perform the tasks shortly during externship
It seems that cheating takes alot of effort/energy. I have had students make a cheat sheet and turn it in to me before the exam. Theri score have improved. CVheating is wrong and dealt with IAW school policy.
I like to give my students real life examples of how "cheating" could cost a patient to lose his/her life. For instance, if you give a patient an incorrect blood pressure, it could cost them their life, especially if they're taking meds. When I give these types of examples, I can actually see fear in their faces!
Cheating or dishonesty should never be done in their chosen career. It should be explained to your students that by cheating, they are actually cheating themselves only. This is a serious offense that no one tolerates not even their future employer. This is explained when the syllabi is discussed on the first day.
I tell my students that if I observe them cheating I will not make a huge production at that time, but, when they get there exam back and it has a zero on it, They will know why.
I give my students examples of what is cheating in health care and explain that cheating in class you lose points, Cheating on the job will cost you your lively hood.
Students should be held accointable for their actions. If a student is cheating they should be held to the zero tolerance policy and this sets an example for the class.
Hi Mary Beth,
Students should be reprimanded if they are caught cheating.
