Student Cheating
I believe it is important to let students know that you take cheating seriously. Diligent students resent cheaters - they are not part of the academic community that a class normally forms. I think that while it would be impossible to absolutely be certain I have eliminated cheating, my clear and reasonable efforts assure good students that their effort is respected and I am doing my best to protect the value of their grade.
Isn't that a shame? It's like there is no unique thought left in the world! I am constantly taking a stand against plagiarism.

Hi Megan,
I know, it is even easier to cheat now, because any and everything you want is on the web.

Yes, and most times with writing there are papers available for copying. Many of my students have tried to use other's work as there own, which is a nightmare to explain.
Hi Wes,
The internet is a very helpful tool, but it can also be instructors worst enemy in some cases. You are right electronic tests and paper tests can be found on the internet along with their answers, instructors enemy.

Even electronically adminstered testing can be subject to cheating. I have experienced this first hand. Plenty of information out there on the internet about how to hack some of the popular online learning management systems.
Hi Ro,
I'm curious about what you mean here. If the students are taking a test online in class, the material can still be viewed by other students, and you still have to worry about outside information. If the students are taking the test at home, then it is basically a take-home, open-book exam, and there is no way to verify that it was the designated student taking the test.
Can you please clarify for me?
Thanks.
One approach to stop cheaping is having test taking online.
I agree. It can be extremely frustrating for a student who is working hard and taking their education seriously. Especially if the cheating student recieves a higher grade then the one who studied hard. It can cause a lot of hard feelings between students and each other but also students and instructor.
