student cheating

i was wondering if i suspect a student of cheating, should i have them take the test by themselves in a private area, so i can keep an eye on them? or maybe i should review my tests???

i make several versions of a test. I may have 4 versions of a test that I give to a class. Each test has the exact same questions they are just in a different order.

Singling a student out based on lack of evidence is never a good idea. If you suspect a student of cheating, give them a test that slightly differs from the others. If they attempt to cheat, you can spot it because they are under the belief that they are taking the same test.

Another thing I do is make my tests open book, increase the difficulty and put a time limit on them. From there, monitor the test. I've had more success by turning the "temptation" into part of the test itself.
