Defusing a hostile student

When there is a hostile student acting up in class, when do you address the issue? At the time the student makes their comment? Or do you take them out in the hallway at break?

If it is not addressed immediately then it will only get worse. Remove the student!

It also gives security to the other students

I find that immediate notification is the best as Patricia stated. It lets everyone know this is not tolerated, I also bring up the class policies to the class again to reiterate this as proof that it has been stated from the start.

Hi Andrea,
Immediately! So that this student and all students know that this type of behavior will not be tolerated, and you will handle things quickly and swiftly.
