I view plaguerism as a form of student cheating and inform my students the first day of class my expectations on these hard topics.
You are correct Wendy. We use TurnItIn at our college. However, I also use Eve 2.6, as it allows me to keep the paper in my personal folder, rather than sending the paper to an online database where it is archived with TurnItIn. Although TurnItIn is a great tool, if a student has copied and pasted their own work in a paper for more than one class, TurnItIn will flag that as plagiarism because the paper has already been archived. You might want to invest $20 for Eve 2.6 because it allows you more control over your students' papers.
I have to agree with you both. At some schools, they have software that analyzes how much of a paper is duplicated elsewhere. Above a certain percent, chances are very good that plaguerism is going on. It might be something to look into.
I agree, especially with the information at hand from the internet. I have seen student copy and paste entire papers.. I try and make sure there are plenty of sources to look back on to check
