Hi John,
Have them put smart phones/cell phones away while testing.

Patricia Scales

Some of the ways I use to reduce or eliminate cheating during test or quiz time is walking around, have students put everything away including but not limited to wallet and cell phones, never leave test materials out during class lecture or class time.

I prepare multiple versions of the test. I also move around the classroom.

One of the ways we have found effective is to uyse different versions of the same exam. It creates more work for the instructor, but it seems to be effective.

Some of the ways cheating could be reduced in my class would be to make sure students are properly prepared with the material they will be testing over. I also offer review of test material in fun activities. The students dont have a need to cheat.

This method has also worked really well for me.

ways to reduce cheating in the class room,is review the test examine,so the students can identify the process of the questions by having them write it on the board to hold retention span, and make it fun as a group.almost like playing jeapordy,i use this in my class setting during test examines, and it works, also you have to be cear with your questions on the test.you also have to lay down your class rules in the begining, what students can do and not do,when they have a indication of direction,it reduces alot of problems in the class rooom.

mr.bernal

your info needs to include these new smart phomes.
best cheating tool ever invented.

When available I place students in a big enough room and separate them so that their opportunity to cheat is minimized. In addition, I have multiple versions of each test and students sitting next to each other have different versions.

Hi David,
This is exactly what I do. We cannot make cheating easy/tempting for our students.

Patricia Scales

One way you can reduce the opportunity for cheating your class is to create space in between students to reduce the temptation of cheating. Another method would be to enter into the area or space of the student that you suspect is cheating. Finally, another option would be to sit in the back of the classroom. Students are less likely to cheat if you sit behind the class during the exam.

I discuss cheating long before the first exam. I go over all the tricks and make jokes about all the people i have caught cheating. Most importantly, I express how disappointed I was in each of every one of them for doing what they did. As much as I agree with the giving of different versions of an exam, trust can only be attained if one has the opportunity to cheat but does not. Eliminating all opportunities to cheat shows no faith in the student. Who wants to perform in an environment where there is no trust and no faith. Sounds like jail to me.

Do not leave the answers out for the students to find. When giving quizes and tests have them place all other material off of the desks. Seperate the students as far from each other as possible.

give each student different question and let them use cell phone and let them sit away from each other

I make sure that cell phones are turned off. I will let them get another paper to cover their test papers in order that their classmates can't copy their answers.

Give students different activities. Walk and observe students also.

Hi Olaolu,
Different versions of the test work well to minimize cheating.

Patricia Scales

I let them know the consequencies of being caught cheating and also give them different version of the same test.

Leading up to a very specific test, I present the students with several practice tests that they are instructed to answer on their own to gauge their own progress of learning and that they are the only one who can honestly assess themselves.

I closely monitor to insure they are working alone.( I have very small classes of 3-12 students)

Following these practice exams we discuss any wrong answers/questions and address any areas of misunderstanding until each student gains a full understanding of the questions and subject material.

They are encouraged to then research the correct answers from text and note page numbers where correct answer is found.

When the final exam is given they rarely try to cheat as they have learned the subject matter and really want to test their own abilities honestly.

Hi Kathryn,
Once you have evidence that a student has cheated, the student should be reprimanded according to policy. You had concrete evidence. These two students really got a slap on the wrist with just a warning. The policy at my insitution is at the minimum, the student will have to repeat the course.
