Group work

Is the best way I have found to bring out the silent student.

Do you think that if the shy/quiet student is placed in a 2 person group vs. 5-10 that it would increase their anxiety or shyness? Part of me feels like it would and part of me feels like it would create an environment where they would need to hold up their end of the conversation.

Hi Jennifer,
I have witnessed that quiet students do better in smaller settings.

I am afraid that assigning a quiet student to a group will not necessarily increase his or her comfort level with speaking unless a teacher requires the students to break down their assignment into smaller tasks and ensure that each student has a similar workload with respect to the group project.

Hi Travis,
You are right! With on-on-one, shy students have to converse. There are not others who can dominate the conversation.

I agree because alot of students are shy of "big groups". By placing students in one on one secession their almost are being cornered to talk and have a conversation with another student.
