Making the hard Call
Students know my expectations from day 1. They know that I am there to teach them and they are there to learn. Each student have the rights and responsibility to learn and let there classmates learn. Class disruption is not allow in my classroom. Verbal counseling comes first, then written and then removal. This is my way for good order and discipline.
This is all good info.. sometimes it does take that one disruptive student to affect all the others that are there to accomplish their goals. I'm sure they were happy to not have the disruption no longer.
If counseling does not work I go by the 3 times and you are out rule. I had an older student who was disruptive in class and disrespectful to me and the other students. After several mediated counseling sessions it was time to take the steps necessary to remove her from the program. Having her removed from the program accomplished several things:
1. She was not a good fit for the program and it allowed her the ability to look for something that would suite her personality better.
2. It showed the other students that I was serious about the program and would not stand for disruptive behavior
3. it showed the remaining students that I cared about their education and their right to learn in an environment that was free from hostility
