Cheating
I caught a student cheating on his midterm exam by having information written on his forearm. I confronted him, gave him a zero for the exam grade, wrote him up, and he has to turn in a 2 page paper on the information he was cheating on. He admitted he cheated and that he made a mistake. It is not always fun to deal with these situations, but I feel it is necessary.
If they're going to cheat, they need to cheat from someone smarter; if not, the wrong answer is spotlighted for both.
Cheating on quizzes or exams are addressed on the first day of class. It is not tolerated and students are aware that wondering eyes will be given a zero as well.
I tell my students from the first day, that I can not stand lying, cheating, or stealing. We discuss these words and the consequences that can take place if this happens especially cheating on a test.
Good work! I had to do the same not long ago. Not fun but it is necessary.
I can not stand to see a student cheat. Especially after providing a thorough review. I like how you handled the situation with him having to write the 2 page essay. It just sucks that you can not give credit for an exam that weighs so much on the students grade. Did you offer to let him do a re-test?
