How does an instructor respond to a complaint regarding:

my immediate supervisor or other instructor?

I'm not interested in dragging him/her through the mud, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable bringing up the complaints to the supervisor directly.

Chris

I have found that students will try and get you to side with them about another instructor. I had one young lady who took a class from another instructor, and failed the class. She told me she "hated" that instructor and didn't want to take anymore classes from her. She failed because she didn't follow the course rules and kept leaving lab time early. I told her that she doesn't have to like all her instructors, she must respect them. I told her that she would indeed be taking more classes from this instructor and that I expected her to remain professional. The student changed her attitude, and ended up respecting the other instructor and thanking her in her graduation speech.

Hi Chris, at least document the complaints, and how you handled them in a file on your computer, so if it does reach your supervisor, you will have something to fall back on.
