Phones in class.
I had a student a term ago take a picture of things in her textbook and notes and use them to complete a test. I only found out because she completed her test in 5 minutes and it took everyone else over an hour.
I learned that I provided the opportunity because at that time i let students use the calculator on their phones. Now students must have cell phones away during class.
Hi Jean,
Try it! Very effective approach.

Thank you for the suggestion, Patricia. I will do that. J
Hi Jean,
You need to talk to your DOE about implementing a cell phone policy. My institution has a cell policy, and we have little to know problems with cell phones.

My college does not have a policy that supports having students leave their cell phones at the front of the room during class. I have not been able to come up with a policy that actually works as long as they have the phones. I do talk individually with students who are "sneak-peeking" excessively and that helps with many of them.
Hi Jason. It is a tough thing when you trust your students to not cheat and they abuse it. I used to be very strict about no cell phone use during tests, but now I let them use their calculators. I walk around the room and look at what they are doing to discourage them from looking at anything else on their phones.
I have students put their cell phones on a desk in front of the class and retrieve them on their breaks. This eliminates their use for cheating.
When I test I tell my students to place all the phones, books and belongings in the front to the class on my table. In that way they cannot cheat.
I like this idea, except we as instructors are not allowed to take the students phones, so what I do, is, I make them set the phone on top of the table (computer lab) and they are not allowed to touch it durning class time. If we are in an exam, they must be placed in their backpacks and the phone is not allowed out until class is over.
I learn some of my student were using the pictures they had take on their cell phones for instrument tests. Now when they take an examination they put their cell phones in a basket on my desk.
