Students who cheat are not managing their time wisely and have lost control of their learning and therefore are desperate. It is not personal although I understand your feelings. The most important thing to confront the offenders and explain the policy and the seriousness of the infraction. This is really a wake up call and students respect you and renews the fact that I'm in control of the course which needs to be properly administered to allow learning to occur fairly for all students. I have students extremely humbled and apologetic and eager to correct the situation.

No I tend to take cheating personally as well because it seems to be the ones that you devoted so much time and energy into helping prepare for the test that end up cheating and its like a slap in the face. So you start to wonder why did they waste your time and energy if they were just going to cheat anyway
