respect

I always treat people (students )
the way I expect to be treated with respect .
even with proplem students I never talk down to them.

Dan Butler

Hello Daniel, I agree. Respect is so fundamentally important in any setting or environment, it is often the key component of success, however respect doesn't just appear, it is earned by the way you treat others (students, faculty, co workers, family, friends, etc.) by showing sensibilty, understanding and most of all by respecting and treating others the way you want to be trated and being knowledgeable and experienced in your field helps too. because you could be a very nice person and treat everyone very nice and you probably will be liked. knowledge, experience and professionalism will probably score high in the respect category.

This is so important. My Dad always taught me to respect people and I have always taught my son to repect and treat people the way that he would want to be treated.

Hello Judy,
I give my students the same respect I expect from them. By giving respect, I have always received respect.
Patricia

I have a values assignment for students and, very frequestly, they choose respect as their number one value. I know that in order to get respect, you must give respect, something that I try to pass on to my students.

Hello Anthony,
Isn't it so true that looks can be deceiving? I have exprienced exactly what you have indicated. You really can not judge a book by its cover.
Patricia

I agree whole heartedly. I have had students that looking at them you would believe that they are a certain way, and throughout the course you find that they are completely different. This goes for both good and bad. I try to not hold an opinion on a student just by looking at them.

It is interesting to see how quickly attitudes can change when respect is given.

I agree with this philosophy. I have found that addressing my students by their surname prefaced with Mr. or Miss, creates in their mind my respect for them. Generally speaking, I experience very few respect issues in my classes.

it goes to say you can't judge a book by its cover. respect all and you will get it back.

Respect is the first word I put on the bourd on the first day of class this alows the subgect to come up imeadiatly I ask the class what the deffinition is to get the ball rolling. works every time.
