If you make a mistake in class
Most students will catch it, so dont try to coverup
Hi Richard,
If you mess up "fess" up. We are all human; we make mistakes.
Patricia
If you make a mistake dont try to hide it. Admit your mistake showing your students you are human can get you respectand the student will trust you.
Hi Mike,
Nicely responded to! Mistakes are inevitable, they are bound to happen. The reaction to a mistake should always be positive.
Patricia
If you think you are never going to make a mistake you are wrong. It is not what happens but how we react. when handling a mistake incorrectly, we are diminished in the students eyes. The mistake they can forgive, handling it poorly, they cannot.
I find my students are very respectful towards me when I make a mistake. They do like to point out my mistakes; and then they let me know that it's okay. I just work at not making a big deal about mistakes. Just move on....
Hi Janice,
Don't they love to catch us doing things wrong? They really strive off of finding our mistakes!
Patricia
I love to tell my students to catch my mistakes
and they love to catch them
Hi John,
Absolutely, we are all human, and we will all make mistakes.
Patricia
I agree 100%. Showing the students that you are human and can also make mistakes has a tendency to help them with they're own possible shortcomings.
You are absolutely right Teresa.
These students are pretty adept at catching mistakes.
I usually joke about what I did and explain what happened.
I set myself up as a target doing that but the students get a laugh out of it and as a result they are more relaxed and not afraid to have a little fun.
I tell them, "We have the God given right to make mistakes, just don't repeat them, learn from them."
The flavor of the class changes for the better
if they are aware of the fact they are not required to be 100% perfect all the time.
And a mistake is a learning tool and not always a sign of failure.
