Relieving new instructor anxiety

I feel that support from the instructors program director, especially during the first few weeks is essential to the success of the new instructor.

Hi Elizabeth,
Your seasoned instructors are great resources! Pick their brain every chance you get. Preparation is key! As long as you are prepared, knowledgeable, and display confidence you will be fine. You will excel. Put your best foot forward; the more you teach, the better you will become!

I am a new instructor and I am a little scared of teaching a class solo in the near future. To relieve my own anxiety I have already been discussing the course content with my fellow instructors and I already feel a great relief. I know that with the combined knowledge of my coworkers and my love for the field it will be a great experience!

Hi Chris,
Quit should not be in an instructor's vocabulary, however, I understand your perspective. Just remember, it is natural to be nervous, but each day you teach, you are becoming more and more effective, and soon you will become a PRO!
Patricia

Anxiety can be overwhelming for a new instructor. I wanted to quit when I was new. Time and practice was the solution.

The same is true for me. My fellow instructors have been great. We should all remember that as we become more experienced so we can turn around and help the next "new guys".

I am a new instructor. I agree that support of the program director is vital. It has also been very helpful having the support of the more experienced instuctors. I might have had a much more difficult time adapting without their support.

Hi Mark,
I agree! The program director needs to be supportive at all times, especially during the first few months for a new instructor.

Hi Alison,
You will also find that fellow instructors are very valuable resources in more ways than one.
Patricia

As a new instructor, I have found that reassurance from fellow instructors has helped greatly!
