Instructor anxiety

Having a feeling of anxiety is not always a bad thing for instructors. It pushes us to prepare to alleviate these feelings. If after preparation we still feel uneasy, than maybe we are just putting to much pressure on ourselves.

Regardless of what course I teaching every term, there is a level of anxiety before the first class. This can a class with all new students or ones that I have had in other classes during previous terms. It tends be my subconscious fear that I didn't have time between terms to prepare properly. But usually after that first class all apprehension dissolves away and I'm back in my comfort zone.

Hi Caroline,
I understand. I have a lot of nervous engergy, and I put forth great effort when my nervous engergy strikes in. I am teaching a class for the very first time, and I am both excited and anxious every day to present to my students. I put a lot of time in preparing for the course.

I agree, I always thought the more nervous and anxious you are about a new endeavor, the more effort and desire you will put into it. Therefore I think those of us who experience these feelings do not need to worry. Its those of us who go into something new, such as teaching, without feeling anxious are the ones who need to worry about failure or not making a breakthrough with the student.

Hi Raquel,
I understand! It is like your adrenaline gets to flowing...you are so excited, you can't wait to present the lesson.

I have some anxiety before every class, it's like performance anxiety. I pushes me to be ready for my class.

Hi Steven,
Students should never see you sweat. We have to be prepared and confident enough to always maintain our composure.
Patricia

I agree with you Gena. As instructors, if we show our anxiety, it will rub off on the students, I understand that a bit of uneasyness actually good for the learning process.. it should not be enough to make the process unatainable.
