mistakes
instructors must set boundaries and let students know upfront the expectations of the class the instructor and themselves
Hi Meron,
A friendly reminder can go a long ways. Students are just learning, sometimes they need to be reminded.
Patricia
If students forget the rules, remind them by subtly re-reading rules.
Hi Preston,
Nicely stated based on research. I have come to realize you get from students what you expect. Students need to be held to high attainable standards.
Patricia
I believe in setting high expectations. Research has shown that in the classroom, if high expectations are set, students will meet them. Research also shows if you set low expectations, students will meet those, as well.
Hi Andy,
As instructors our students should be very important to us. The students come first, then the institution, and we come last. I tell my faculty we make decisions based on whether it will help the student first, second helpful to the institution, and we are last. It is all about the students.
Patricia
I feel Most mistakes involve instructors putting themselves before their students or using excuses to explain their lack of effort.
Hi Richard,
Students need to know what is expected of them on Day 1. Students appreciate expectations. Without expectations there are not any boundaries.
