Failing to be alert at all times
Be prepared everytime for class. I arrive to class every day on time before my students. Also I have extra assignment made and revieew the chapter questions. I think one way to avoid common Instructor mistakes is to be well prepared. I find that it is very good to go over to over your lesson/lecture plan, and the assignment questions before class.

I learned early in my career that a lot of students will rush through their work, however you do have a few that will do their due diligence to put forth great effort in producing quality work.

Overestimating the amount of time students will devote to out of class work, and underestimating the amount of time it will take them to do it :)
