On the very begining of class after introduction I explain to the students that I am here to sharpen their skills and knowledge for their success. I try to give them a positive feel for the profession they have chosen and that big success can be achieved by using this environment to gain all the tools for their success.

I find the best step to a positive instructor image is be prepared, be consistant, be fair and realize that sometimes you need to be flexible.

In the school I work for the student has to wear a uniform, I wear the same uniform so my uniform is always cleaned and pressed. Setting the example from the very begining.

Hi Connie,
It is certainly impressive how you make it a point to teach your students about punctuality. Employers have a very low tolerance level for tardiness. I like what you are instilling in your students because it is no joke in the work place.

I begin with my introduction and going over course materials and the syllabus. I always try to present myself in a professional manner and set a good example for my nursing students. Being on time is a key thing for me and I try to instill in them punctuality because in the work world you will get fired for that very quickly nowadays. There are a dozen new nurses waiting to take your job, so be on time. I always encourage my students and assure them they can succeed if we work together.

Hi Sue,
You have the same mindset as I do. Great response. I can tell you lead by example, and you are a true professional.
Patricia

I strive for a positive image by making sure I'm well-prepared for the class, having my lecture and all supporting material organized, getting to class ahead of time to make sure everything works, greeting students as they come in and demonstrating enthusiasm about the subject. I also like to use current events to demonstrate the relevance of the subject and try to highlight the positive side to stories.

Hi Wilfred,
Organization is key! Organization is an important factor to succeed. We must walk the walk, students imitate what we do!
Patricia

I believe that it is important for a instructor to be organized,we must lead by example. If we are not setting a good example,we cannot expect our students to develop good organizational skills.

Hi Jessica,
You compiled an impressive list! I like the positive attitude that you have shown in this list, and I can tell you are your students cheerleader! Based on the list, we must remember to also be professional while doing these things.
Patricia

Hi William,
It is imperative for instructors to appear very confident. In order to be confident, one must be organized, prepared, and knowledgeable. Students pick up quickly on instructors that are not confident. Students will begin to complain about the instructor tremendously after learning the instructor is not confident.
Patricia

1. Encourage students
2. Listen
3. Smile
4. Address concerns promptly
5. Reply to students' email
6. When a student expresses a concern reply with a positive answers
7. Look for the positive in students and praise them for it.

Hi Garry,
Well said! Students want to know that they will be learning from someone who is well qualified. It eases a lot of tension whenever students know that they have a very knowledgeable instructor.
Patricia

The first day of class an instructor has the opportunity to "set the stage" for the class and present a positive image for the students. This means being prepared, having a syllabus, understanding the subject matter and explaining the requirements for the class. This delivery of class introduction should be done from a positive position. It should show relavance to the learner and have meaning to them. An IDE gives some information of themself to let the students know the are a SMA. The introduction should be relevant to the course and ensure the learner that the instructor is in a positive position to help the student gain knowledge from their experience.

Positive instrutor image can be created by first appearing confident during delivering the first statment to the class. A well-organized presentation will also establish a sense of competence. Asking for the names of the students and then calling them by name during the first interactions will enhance the teacher's image.

Yes, being yourself is foremost. Students will be able to tell if you come on to them by acting like one of them. Just be yourself. Some students will like you and some will not. That's life!! The trick is to try to establish rapport and respect from the one's that did not like you at first. I find this both challenging and rewarding.

First, and foremost, I am simply myself. Additionally I try to be prepared, ready to go to work, and thry to be clear with my students regarding class expectations.

Hi Joseph,
It is great to make students feel very comfortable and relaxed enough where they come back to visit even though they are no longer in the class.
Patricia

i always make it feel like the students can talk to me any time they need to. even if they are no longer in my class.

I agree well thought out lesson plans improve the effectiveness of your day and therefore your image. Being organized before the students arrive is also important. Humor also adds to a positive class environment.
