Hi Debra,
This is a great way to begin rapport building as well. It is amazing what you find out about each other during the activity.

Greg,
This is how I always start a new class. It is very interesting to find out about the students in you class; it also helps with remembering their names. It also lets them know about you and your experiences in the field they are wanting educated in. This is am excellent ice breaker on the first day of class.

What kinds of incidents could possibly happen that would require a comlete back up lesson plan. I like to err on the side of caution as well and therefor think this may be a good plan but I am curious as to the types of events that may necessitate this. Thanks!

Hi Norma,
Awesome response! Confidence is a major factor when it comes to controlling axiety. The more confidence you have, the smoother the delivery.

Hi Linda,
Getting things off to a good start is crucial. Whenever the tone is smooth from the beginning, you can look forward to a great grading period.

Hi Christopher,
Preparation is essential. I like to go in a head of time if possible to get my room setup as well.

Hi Cristian,
Whatever works for you to ease your nervousness then that is what you should do. Preparation really makes my anxiety disappear. When I know I am ready, I do not fear at all.

Hi Ashley,

I find that at the end of each day if I set all the items aside that i will need for the next day. I feel more at ease because I am not trying to hurry to get things in order right before class.

I always go in with a lesson plan and a back up lesson plan incase I don't think I can execute my original. It helps me to know that I am prepared.

I really appreciate this approach - it seems most logical. They need to know about you so they feel confident that you will be able to teach them what they came to learn and to have an idea of how to participate in class with you.

You need to know about them so you can gear material, speed of instruction and so on based on their level of existing knowledge.

It just sets a friendly, non-threatening tone in the class and gets things off to a good start.

i find it helpful to read on my lecture, so i knwo Im prepared, but immediately before class, i turn my attention to something else, totally unrelated, maybe 9if i have a chance) get some fresh air before getting started

Some of the best advice that was given to me was about preparation, planning, practice, and confidence. We need to do ourselves justice by coming prepared with answers to all the possible "what if" questions that students might ask. We need to have organization and planning as a key ingredient. By being well organized in how we set the stage, deliver the message, and follow up, we then create the visual that we are a professional. We must practice and rehearse and use our faculty peers as "guinea pigs" to help us work through the choices of words or structure of tasks that our students will be doing. By working those out in advance, and doing "dry runs" - we then work out the kinks and thus creating a smoother delivery of what we intended to do. The last piece of advice is to have confidence in ourselves. The organization/ University would not have hired us if they did not believe that we could do it. There must be something within us that they see, and so we need to believe that too.

Hi Jason,
Preparation is key! Instructors must thoroughly prepare for their classes.
Patricia

Hi Brenda,
Preparation is key! Students want to and need to learn from an instructor that is knowledgeable in the subject matter. Students enjoy hearing applicable stories to the lesson.
Patricia

I like the advice of overpreparing in the beginning.
Preparation includes checking out the classroom, my clothes, my materials, and myself mentally, physically and professionally. The idea is that I start and conduct the class with confidence then infect the students with the same feeling.

BY HAVING THE KNOWLEDGE 0F YOUR CLASS SUBJECTS, AND SHARING PAST EXPERIENCE ON THE MATTER, WITH MATERIAL PREPARED FOR THE CLASS WILL HELP TO MOTIVATE THEIR INTEREST AND CLASS WILL BE OVER BEFORE YOU REALIZE IT.

Making sure that you have the subject and format of instuction down are the ways that I get over the anxiety. I do a dry run a day or two prior to the actual lesson that way I can work out any kinks or at material if needed.

Hi Kami,
Preparation is key! The instructor gets an extra boost when he/she is prepared.
Patricia

Make sure to be prepared going into the classroom. This will show the students that the instructor is knowledgeable, and ready to answer questions.
