Feeling unprepared

I am a rather new instructor. No matter how much I review my material, I don't feel like I am prepared for class. The buggest fear I have is getting up in front of the class, and they think that "this guy doesn't know what he's talking about." Any advice??

Hello Ms Scales I'm not a good fan of sticky notes. I use them but when neccessary. I really enjoyed this cousre it gave me a little insight on how to deal with student behavior.

Hi LaTunija,
Great system to ensure things get done. I live by sticky notes, but I do not miss a beat. If the note is of priority I stick it on my telephone handset to make sure it gets taken care of.

I'm not an instructor but I do set the students up for externship and I find it helpful to jot down things so that I don't forget.

When I was a new instructor, I found that rehearsing help me so much.

Hi Vincent,
Rehearse your lessons. Get with seasoned instructors for pointers. Confidence is key. Students only think you do not know what you are talking about if you give them reason to believe that. Continue to prepare, be knowledgeable, and believe in YOU.

Rehearsing. Short topic presentations. In front of a supportive family member might help. Ask what they take away from each short topic.

The "take away" should be a relevant point or skill that you are trying to deliver.

Do the same short topic presentations with the class. Make it light-hearted but relevant. Ask what they heard immediately afterwards. Intentionally "mis-hear" their responses and ask them to clarify what they heard. You can "calibrate" both sides of the process this way.
