Maintaining a professional image
Always lead by example
I respect your concern with image you must agree to put your best foot foward.
I respect your concern with image. What you have shown the students is how you dress well; that does not necessarily guarantee success. Wearing a suit does not make me a better professor. Students do not take long to recognize a good professor from a bad professor - clothes do not usually impact a student as much as the professor's communication skills, fairness in the classroom, knowedge....
I have been reprimanded by judges for my sloppy appearance, but applauded by my clients for the results I provided them – which is more important?
Hi Linda,
Well stated! We must certainly be the professional that we want our students to become. Students emulate what they see either good or bad. Let's show proper professional behavior.
Patricia Scales
I am an Attorney by trade and teach the law. I always dress professionally, even on "dress down days". I address each student as Mr/Ms/Mrs-never by their first names inside or outside the institution. I provide clear expectations and the consequences for volations of them. I attempt to be the Role Model for them which I wished I could have experienced coming of age in the 60's and 70's. They can not know how to act if they are not taught and shown.
