Strategy for Mistakes

Humor can be a great rebound for mishaps. I've noticed that if you take ownership of your mistakes the students will value your honesty.

Covering up a mistake is the worst thing you can do. Making mistakes can become a great learning experience for the student because 1) they're going to make mistakes and 2) they have to learn how to correct them. So I always use my mistakes to enhance the day's lesson.

Hi Mary,
That's right! Do not try to cover up things when you make a mistake, this only makes matter worse. Admit your mistake and move forward.

when I make mistakes I like to acknowledge them this allows students to realize that I am a human as well and I too can make mistakes

Hi Joel,
It is amazing how much students can help you to correct mistakes. Afterall, students like correcting instructor's mistakes.

I'd have to agree, especially if it comes naturally to you as an instructor. I've also asked my students for assistance when something goes wrong, like a computer projector issue or a difficult question or when I ASSUMED they needed something that they didn't. It definitely loosens up the class to participate with me in correcting mistakes, real-time and "live."

Hi Annette,
We all make mistakes. Admit them, correct them, learn from them, and move on.
