Boundries in teaching.
It is imperative as an instructor to set professional boundries. Students want us to be their friends but we are not we are their teacher. I listen to my students problems and sometimes offer advice and give them information about student services that are available for counseling, but I never step over the line.
One of the biggest issues that I face as a program director is helping instructors know where to draw the line with their relationships with the students. I believe the best role they could play in a student’s life is that of a mentor. This role will allow them to maintain a business relationship and also create a rapport with the student that say, "My role is to help you be successful"
Hi Rachel,
Boundaries are crucial. Without boundaries there is no structure.

I agree. This can be difficult, especially when the students become colleagues in your field of study after they complete their education. It's imperative to always maintain the boundary.
