common instructors mistake
Some instructors common mistakes are related to that some times there are students who are well versed in your subject also and it makes one nervous.
Hi Linda,
Absolutely! Students can be a big help in the classroom. We should let them get involved academically when they are a benefit to the class.

Even if a student has alot of knowledge in a particular field, everyone's experience is different. We had a student that was very knowledgable and she was actually a help when it came to small group activities. However, she had worked in an all feline practice, so her knowledge with other species was limited. I think if we acknowledge that someone has skills and abilities, it can actually help you rather than hinder you.
Very true, I know sometimes I'm asked to cover a course I'm not used to teaching. But I still keep myself professional and honest. If students have a question that I don't know the answer, I tell them I don't know, but I will find it for you.
All the more important for an instuctor to establish themselves as an expert in the field. No matter how well a student is versed in subject matter there is a reason form them being in your course.
