Manging a Class
Even with being well prepared, organized, and dedicated to sharing my expertise and knowledge of the field with my students, it is not always easy to manage these students. Your comments/susggestions regarding this topic is greatly appriciated.
I feel that if you treat students the way you want to be treated, they follow your lead. Establishing clear rules of behavior/respect and setting up an expectation for participation helps create engagement. Students who are engaged tend not to become management problems.
When students do create problems, refocus them by showing how their behavior negatively impacts the classroom and ask how the behavior impacts their career goals? This demonstrates to them that their negative behavior causes them to deviate from their path. Directing them back to themselves forces them to take responsibility for their actions and correct their behavior.
