in my pasr experienced the first day of class is always an anxious situations.
and feelings.
i felt that i have overcomed that by having my teaching materials ready and my expectations are set and i am presenting my self organizely and professionally.
i also made a decision to memorize my students by the week of my teaching and i have been consistent.

The personal time will decrease, simply because the more you teach a course the better you will become, and the preparation for that same course becomes a lot less. Intially, it can be very time consuming, but that will change with time.

Agree completely that preparation is key. I try to prepare as soon as possible. Even before the term is over and I find out what are the courses I will have to teach next term I try to obtain the course material as quickly as possible. I do so to especially to have a properly setup lab environment for the class. One thing though it has taken more personal time that what I was expecting. Even these online courses as well.
