My first day of teaching was very stressful and didnt know what to expect, what if they asked me a question and didnt know the answer is all I could think about, but at the end of class they all came forward and said that was one the best lecture they have heard and we didnt fall asleep please stay with us, it made me feel good.

If this works for you do it to ease your nerves. Remember, you know more than the students. Prepare and be ready and you will do just fine.

if i'm teaching new subject matter or substituting for another instructor i get nervous and stressed before the first meeting. on that first day i usually try to relax myself with some humor by telling the class a few bad jokes or take a minute to talk about a major current event. that usually gets my connected to the students quickly and relaxes me as well.

It can be scary, but each day you become more and more comfortable, and before long you are definitely an expert! Preparation is key!
