Humor is the key

When I make a mistake, I always try and make it a laughable moment.

When conducting class demonstrations things don’t always go as planned when cooking. It is best to accept that things can go wrong and use this as a teaching opportunity for the students. They have a greater possibility of having issues since they are the novice at this technique.

Hi Scott,
I am not a very funny person, therefore I like to do fun activites, such as games with my students to help them retain the information. Students love having fun while learning.

I use humor especially with the more challenging chapter or more difficult ones that would bore them to help them learn the information. I tested this that when I used humor to present material they remember for the test and score higher.

Hi Louise,
I am not real big on humor. I like building rapport with students by treating them with respect and fairness.

I'm careful with using humor because it could be misunderstood.

I try to find ways to use the humor in my past experiences of my trade to relate the joy that my work has given me over the years before I began teaching. Life can be hilarious! It can also be miserable sometimes. Without laughing my head off from time to time, I would have quit my career long ago.

Making mistakes into laughable moments work very well. I also like to share my mistakes with other faculty/co workers.....the way I see it is, if I make a mistake and someone else can learn from it, I want the credit!
