TALKING PERSONAL LIFE
Some time talking about the personal life if it is part of career may motivate the students, sharing your experience will help the students to understand field they will work
I agree that sharing personal stories can be effective in the classroom. I believe it both gets the attention of students to better absorb information on the topic the story is relevant to and help build rapport.
Hi Darnell,
Students love hearing personal stories as they apply to the course content. Students really want to know how it is like in the real world.

I agree, I too apply personal experiences in the lessons. The students will be more likely to engage in the discussion when real-life experiences are relatable.
Hi Michelle,
It is fine to share stories as long as they are applicable to the lesson. Students love hearing stories that apply to what they are learning.

I apply personal stories if it applies to my lesson. As far as the students sharing..As long as is same. But if off topic I tell them let's get back to our topic.
Hi Michael,
Your personal sharings are on point. Our students really do not need to be bogged down with our issues. They have enough issues of their own, and they care barely handle their own problems.

This was always a personal problem for me when an instructor would do this. I try to avoid like the plague. The example in this course that "students have their own issues to worry about" was a great example. I only use personal experience when it is important to the topic at hand or provides insight in to a situation that a student might actually encounter one day.
I agree with you, but I also know that you can not constantly talk about your personal life with your students. If you do you will end up using up the whole class period . That leaves the students learning nothing so I just give them a small bit of information about me.
Yes, my personal lessons are always about my experience in the operating room. The more experience I share the more prepared the student. I even share some common mistakes made in the O.R. This helps the student to know if they make a mistake, correct the mistake and move on, rather than fall apart.
I agree that students love to hear about our personal experiences in the field, particularly the really successful and super-blunder ones. However, it's really important to not cross the line of revealing more personal information than the students need to know. Yes, we are real people too, but we are not their friend. That's a really easy line to cross over when you are brand new.
I too believe that discussing personal situations is important if, it is within the scope of the activity that is being discussed.
I use examples from my working life often in the classroom. It brings the skills taught in the classroom to life by showing how they relate to real world situations.
I believe sharing your personnel experience about the many things that happen when you working in your
field is a good thing. Sometimes the students ask you about your personal life, they are interested in you as a person. You can share briefly and with discretion to satisfied then but then get back on track with your lesson plan.
Hi Kulsoom,
It is fine to include personal stories in the classroom as long as the stories apply to the lesson. Students love to hear what has really happened in real life as it pertains to content in the book.
